OUR HISTORY

On July 23, 1979, 7:00 p.m., the Reverend Cato Brooks, Jr., and ten (10) others were summoned by the Lord to the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Ervin of Gary, Indiana, for a serious meeting in respect to their commission for the Lord. 

​

In August of 1979, the Tree of Life Mission was organized and worshipped with Rev. James Barnett, Jr., and the Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church.

On September 17, 1979, at 7:30 p.m., the Tree of Life Mission became the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Cato Brooks, Jr., became the Pastor of the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church for life. John Trotter seconded the motion. All members present voted in the affirmative.

Under the leadership of Pastor Brooks, we are a church that understands what God's plan is for mankind. The membership continues to grow in number and in spirit. The Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church has come this far by faith, leaning, trusting, and depending upon His Word.

On February 5, 1991, the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church received a commendation from the City of Gary for its outstanding contributions to the community in its efforts to broaden and extend mental, physical, and spiritual guidance to the citizens of Gary.

In July of 1991, the Southern Baptist State Convention awarded the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church a certificate of outstanding performance in Christian Service.

With the continued growth of the church, an educational wing was constructed in 1992 and the gut rehab of our church sanctuary began.

October 1, 1993, Tree of Life Missionary located at 3901 East 14th Avenue, Gary, IN 46403, held its first service. Rev. Cato Brooks, III was assigned as the Pastor. Soon after, Bethesda in Fort Wayne, Indiana and House of Prayer in Gary became missions under the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. T.A. Smith and Rev. Marvin Eskew were the respective.

On Sunday, September 11, 1994 at 5:00p.m., the second cornerstone was laid by the Sons of Light, depicting a new age for the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church.

During 1996 and 1996 three missions were began. Oak Knoll Renaissance Housing Development, Rev. Marvin E. Davis as Mission Pastor, Gary Baptist Center, 456 Monroe St., Rev. Hunter Griffin, III as Mission Pastor and New Era in Lafayette, Indiana with Rev. Anthony Goffin as Pastor .

The Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church truly believes in "spreading the Gospel". Throughput our media ministry, radio, and television broadcasts, our Worship Service on WGVE 88.7 FM and Gary Cable Vision, Channel 21.

On Sunday, July 4, 2004, Tree of Life Mission under the leadership of Mission Pastor, Marvin E. Davis, was constituted as Anew Life Ministry Baptist Church. Now they are totally independent and self-sustaining.

In December of 2012 the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church and the Crossroads Bible College formed a partnership, to establish a site for Biblical Education. The first classes started in January 2013, forming Crossroads Bible College Northwest extension. Through this partnership in May 2014 or first graduates were Rev. Dyke Lee Sr., Sis. Tracy Williams, and Sis. Karen Davis.
